My Dog Is Gaining Too Much Weight......Help!

It can be very frustrating watching your dog steadily gaining weight and not really knowing what to do. Extra unwanted pounds on your dog can lead to so many health issues including stress to the joints, heart, respiratory system, and even the gastrointestinal track.

One thing you could do is change the dog food you are feeding. But……. to what?

What is the best food to feed your overweight dog? Dog food companies all claim to have the best food so who do you believe?  Well the smart way to find an answer is to look at the ingredient list. OK, that sounds like a place to start………….. but what do you look for?

Well here are a few tips when looking for the best weight loss dog food.

1. An excellent protein source such as chicken (or more preferably chicken meal because it has more nutrients in it) Oh, and make sure it has higher protein levels (at least 26%) to help boost your dogs metabolism.

2. Absolutely, NO wheat, corn, wheat gluten or corn gluten. These ingredients can definitely contribute to weight gain in dogs. Many dog food companies are notorious for putting these ingredients in their dog foods.

3. Look for a food with L-Carnitine in it. This one little ingredient can help a dog burn fat so make sure it’s in the dog food.

Bottom line………most of the time the wrong food plus over eating plus lack of exercise can equal an overweight dog!

One dog food we highly recommend with just the right blend of ingredients to get your dog off to a healthier and slimmer body is Life’s Abundance Weight Loss Dog Food.

Getting your dog on the right food, feeding the correct amount and giving them plenty of exercise can hopefully lead to a healthier and lighter dog!
